From Beginners to amateur racers, most paddlers have only one gear in their “paddling gearbox”, that happens because their training is “a steady state around the lake” kind of training. That’s a shame since when training in different speeds the paddler is challenging their technique and also their physiological load on the body, these variations are forcing the paddler to adapt, grow and improve. So next time you’re going for your lap around the lap try to spice things up with some sprints in the beginning/ end of the session or an interval protocol. My favorite 2 are Fartlek training and HIIT training but on that in future posts.
