Paddle Geek Blog – Day 18

Sprints 20 strokes @ full speed 1’P *6 3 sets. 10′ between sets.
Today speed session is also a great preparation for downwind.
The session is 6 efforts of 20 strokes at max speed with a very short break for 3 sets.
Just like in a good downwind, the purpose of this training is to develop the ability to recover fast from max speed and then to accelerate again.
To make it possible, we must keep the sprints in the A-lactic zone, meaning around “10-“15 seconds for each effort.
This protocol will also teach the paddler to be efficient in the runs and not to over chase them until exhaustion. When trying to catch runs a paddler must accelerate, relax and then accelerate again, just like in today’s series.
Make sure to do one set with a standing start. keep paddling between sprints and not to just float in the boat.
Oscar, how do you like to develop speed on the flat for downwind?
See you tomorrow!
